Probate & Estates

We know this is an incredibly difficult time for you and that paperwork is likely to be the last thing you want to deal with right now. We are more than happy to step in and offer our expert assistance. We won’t treat you as just another client, we understand this is about you and your family and what you are going through and we will help you in any way that we can.

When someone dies, their assets need to be dealt with and ownership transferred to the correct person. If there is a WILL, this will be to the people listed in it. If there is NO WILL, succession will be determined by the law. To transfer the assets, you may need to obtain a GRANT from the Probate Registry which is the official document that banks and the Land Registry will want to see.

Some small estates may not require a GRANT but it is always worth checking with us to ensure nothing gets missed.

To get a Grant of Probate, an Inheritance Tax Return must be completed with full details of assets and debts of the person.  This must be completed in all cases even if there is no Inheritance Tax to pay.

If there is Inheritance Tax to pay then we will ensure all the relevant exemptions and nil rate bands are claimed to reduce your tax bill as much as possible. We will also review the possibility of VARYING the estate to further reduce Inheritance Tax.

We have a flexible approach, we are not an old fashioned law firm charging you a percentage of the estate or running a stopwatch when you call. We offer options to suit you and your circumstances and FIXED FEES can be provided for dealing with discrete tasks, such as drafting the Inheritance Tax Return or preparing estate accounts.

Please do contact us for a chat about what to do no matter what stage of the process you may have reached.
